Collection: William Stanley Haseltine

William Stanley Haseltine (1835–1900) was an American painter and draftsman. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he died in Rome, Italy. Haseltine was associated with the Düsseldorf school of painting, the Hudson River School, and Luminism, establishing himself as a landscape artist.

Haseltine's artistic output primarily consisted of landscape paintings, often depicting coastal scenes and natural formations. Works such as Capri (1869), Natural Bridge, Sorrento (1856), and Coast of Sorrento (1858) exemplify his focus on specific geographical features. He also painted European landscapes, including Traunstein River on the Road to Empfig, Bavaria (c. 1893–96).

Between 1875 and 1885, Haseltine traveled and worked in the Netherlands and Belgium, expanding his range of subjects beyond American and Italian vistas. His work reflects the detailed observation characteristic of the Düsseldorf school combined with the atmospheric qualities of Luminism.
