Collection: Adriaan de Lelie
Adriaan de Lelie (1755–1820) was a Dutch painter born in Tilburg. He received his initial training from A. Peeters, a painter of tapestries and ornaments, and later studied under Andreas Bernardus de Quertenmont in Antwerp. De Lelie established himself in Amsterdam on the advice of Professor Camper.
De Lelie specialized in portraits and cabinet pictures. He made copies of numerous portraits by Rubens and van Dyck in Düsseldorf, alongside historical pictures by Italian and Dutch masters. His cabinet pictures include a depiction of the art collector Jan Gildemeester presenting his collection to guests, and a representation of the 'Drawing Academy' of the Felix Meritis Society in Amsterdam.
His pictures are held in collections across the Netherlands and Germany. De Lelie also instructed a number of pupils, among them Jean Augustin Daiwaille, Jan Adriaan Antonie de Lelie, and Johannes Ziesenis.
