Collection: Claude Deruet

Claude Deruet (1588–1660) was a French painter from Nancy, active in the Baroque period. He worked for the court of the Duke of Lorraine. His artistic approach also incorporated elements of late Mannerism.

Deruet's workshop was a significant training ground, notably hosting Claude Lorrain from 1625 to 1627. Together, they decorated the Carmelite church in Nancy. While few of Deruet's works are preserved, his allegorical series The Four Elements is recognized. A portrait, Claude Deruet Escuier Chevalier de lordre de Portugal, dates to 1632.
