Collection: Franciszek Żmurko

Franciszek Żmurko (1859–1910) was a Polish painter. He began his artistic training in Lviv with Franciszek Tepa, then pursued studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków under Jan Matejko. In 1877, he briefly attended the Vienna Academy before continuing his education with Alexander von Wagner in Munich. After a period in St. Petersburg from 1882 to 1883, Żmurko returned to Kraków in 1880 and settled in Warsaw in 1882, where he lived until his death.

Żmurko's work, often described as academic painting, explored a range of subjects including portraits, half-nudes, and female heads. He also created compositions depicting antique, exotic, historical, religious, and symbolic themes. His approach frequently featured sensual female portraits rendered with a warm color palette.
