Collection: Jacob de Backer

Jacob de Backer (1545–1592) was a Flemish Mannerist painter and draughtsman. He was active in Antwerp between approximately 1571 and 1585. A substantial body of work has been attributed to him, though art historians continue to discuss the extent to which these works are autograph or products of his workshop.

The works attributed to de Backer or his workshop exhibit a late-Mannerist style. This style shows a clear influence from Italian artistic models.
