Ralph Albert Blakelock (1847
–1919) was an American painter born in New York, N.Y. Principally self-taught, he developed a distinctive approach within the Romanticism movement, particularly associated with Tonalism.
Blakelock's work often depicts luminous, impasto landscapes, frequently featuring moonlit scenes. These compositions convey a sense of mysterious romanticism, solitude, and mysticism through their atmospheric qualities.
